When architecture works

There are four thingsthat make good architecture work . First, it must be structurally sound for all kinds of conditions. Second, it must be healthy a big percentage are not. Third , it must be designed for the efficiency of the purpose. Fourth, it must be psychologically pleasing - beautiful. The architects and builders who cost cut the fourth reason are doomed to a low vacancy rate. Mankind seeks beauty. The other three are nice but beauty "wins over" the vast majority of the time.
